András Fejér is the cellist of the internationally renowned Takács Quartet. The Takács Quartet has been in residence at the University of Colorado since 1983 and, in collaboration with other String Faculty, has developed a program geared toward students who relish the chance to develop their artistry with a special emphasis on chamber music, in a small tightly knit community where students will not be lost in the crowd. Members of the Takács admit a small number of students to their individual classes each year and work intensively with a resident graduate string quartet. Although the quartet maintains a high-profile international career, the schedule is managed carefully to allow for regular and frequent periods teaching in Boulder. The Quartet’s commitment to teaching is enhanced by summer residencies at the Aspen Festival and at the Music Academy of the West, Santa Barbara. The Takács is a Visiting Quartet at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London.
Significant scholarships to study with members of the Takács are available, thanks to the Takács Society and the Starling Foundation.
András was born in 1955 into a musical family. His father was a cellist and conductor, and his mother a pianist. He began playing the cello at the age of seven, because as legend has it, his father was unwilling to listen to a violin-upstart practicing. After attending a music high school, Mr. Fejér was admitted to the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 1975, where he was a pupil of Ede Banda, András Mihály, Ferenc Rados and György Kurtág. That same year he founded the Takács String Quartet with three fellow classmates. Although the quartet has been his sole professional focus since then, he does perform as a soloist occasionally as well.
Mr. Fejér is married to a literature teacher. They have three children and live in the Rocky Mountains, where they enjoy year-round sunshine in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. When he is not on tour, he loves reading, photography and tennis.

First Prize Winner of the 2008 Naumburg International Violoncello Competition, David Requiro (pronounced Re-keer-oh) has emerged as one of today’s finest American cellists. After winning First Prize in both the Washington International and Irving M. Klein International String Competitions, he also captured a top prize at the Gaspar Cassadó International Violoncello Competition in Hachioji, Japan, coupled with the prize for the best performances of works by Cassadó.
Mr. Requiro has made concerto appearances with the National Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, Tokyo Philharmonic and with several orchestras from California including the Marin, Oakland East Bay, Peninsula, Santa Cruz, Santa Rosa and Stockton Symphonies. He also has been featured as soloist with the Ann Arbor, Breckenridge, Canton, Edmonton, Lansing, Olympia, Pine Bluff and Santa Fe Symphony Orchestras as well as with the Northwest Sinfonietta, Symphony ProMusica and Naples Philharmonic. His Carnegie Hall debut recital at Weill Hall was followed by a critically acclaimed San Francisco Performances recital at the Herbst Theatre. Soon after making his Kennedy Center debut, Mr. Requiro also completed the cycle of Beethoven’s Sonatas for Piano and Cello at the Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C.
Actively involved in contemporary music, Mr. Requiro appeared as a guest artist at the 2010 Amsterdam Cello Biennale where he gave the Dutch premiere of Pierre Jalbert’s Sonata for Cello and Piano. He has collaborated with composers Krzysztof Penderecki and Bright Sheng, as well as with members of the Aspen Percussion Ensemble, giving the Aspen Music Festival premiere of Tan Dun’s concerto, Elegy: Snow in June, for cello and percussion. An avid chamber musician, Mr. Requiro is a founding member of the Baumer String Quartet and frequently collaborates with the Concertante Chamber Players, ECCO (East Coast Chamber Orchestra), and the Alexander String Quartet. For more than seven seasons, he has served as a frequent performing artist of the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players Series in New York City.
Prior to coming to the University of Colorado Boulder, Mr. Requiro previously served as Artist-in-Residence at the University of Puget Sound as well as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Michigan. His artist faculty appointments include the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Seattle Chamber Music Society Summer Festival, Giverny Chamber Music Festival, Innsbrook Music Festival and Institute, Maui Classical Music Festival and Olympic Music Festival. As a member of the Baumer String Quartet, he co-founded the annual Monterey Chamber Music Workshop.
A native of Oakland, California, Mr. Requiro began cello studies at age six and his teachers have included Milly Rosner, Bonnie Hampton, Mark Churchill, Michel Strauss and Richard Aaron.
